1066 Avenue Road
Councillor
Karen Stintz held a Community Consultation Meeting on May 17th
at Oriole Park Public School to review the owners’ plans for the
development of the St James Bond Church site at 1066 Avenue Road, at the
southwest corner of Avenue Road and Willowbank Boulevard. There
were close to 100 people in attendance.
The owners, FORAM Avenue Holdings Inc., have submitted an application to
the City of Toronto for an Official Plan Amendment and a Rezoning
Application in order to build an 8 storey, 120 unit retirement
residence. The allowable height for the building is only 4 storeys.
The City has rejected the plan and has advised the developers to revise
their plans to be more in keeping with the existing neighbourhood.
Catherine Ferguson, Senior Planner, City of Toronto explained the City’s
process. A final report will be prepared and presented to Council,
probably in the fall, will go back before North York Community Council.
The Architect for the development stated that the proposed height of the
building has been reduced from 8 storeys to 7 storeys as a result of the
City’s rejection of the plan.
A working group has been formed and the ARECA
web site will keep the community informed.
